Today's post is yet again from the American Brass Quintet. This time they are playing a piece by Samuel Scheidt called Battle Suite. It has three movements, the first one is called Intrada and in the renaissance times, this would be the song played when people would enter a ceremony or prelude music before an event. The second movement Courant is dance music, hence its lively and energetic nature. The third movement is called Gaillard Battaglia which means a battle dance. All three of these pieces can be viewed as dance music, not dance music that we are familiar with, but during medieval times, and after a victorious battle, these are the kind of songs to which people would dance.

Speaking of Battle, one of my favorite battle games is Stratego. Stratego is a two player game
set in a medieval fantasy. Each player has an army of pieces that the opponent cannot see, each of these pieces can be a range of difficulty from a low level wolf, to a beast rider, to a mage all the way up to a dragon. So when you attack each other you do not know what level you will be facing from your opponent, so you must hope that your piece will be stronger. This game requires a lot of strategy, hence the name, and is a fun and quick battle scene that ends when one player captures the opponents tile that has a flag on it. So don't put your flag out first!
I enjoyed listening to this one and the game to match is a really neat idea. I forgot about this game for the longest time and it was nice to see you draw the comparison.
